A prefab steel hangar is usually judged by its clear span and door opening, but the success of the project is decided by details that are fixed before shipment. Once the containers leave the factory, every missed drawing note becomes a site question. A pre-shipment review should therefore be a formal checkpoint, not a casual look at attractive 3D views. The owner, local engineer, installer, and supplier should all read the same drawing set and confirm that the building can be erected with the tools, crane access, and foundation already planned.

Begin with the general arrangement drawing. Confirm the hangar length, width, eave height, roof slope, ridge position, bay spacing, and door clear opening. Mark the aircraft or vehicle envelope, maintenance zone, storage corner, and any future office or mezzanine area. If the door supplier is separate from the steel frame supplier, check side clearances, header beam requirements, guide rail positions, and wind lock details. A large door can change the load path in the end wall, so it must not be treated as a late accessory.

Next review the anchor bolt plan. The drawing should show grid dimensions, bolt diameter, projection, base plate size, orientation, and tolerance notes. The local civil team should compare this plan with the foundation drawing and site survey. If the slab has pits, trenches, or drainage channels near the columns, resolve conflicts before concrete is poured. A hangar frame can be accurately fabricated and still be delayed by anchor bolts that were set from an outdated drawing.

Member marking is the third checkpoint. Every column, rafter, bracing member, purlin, girt, and connection plate should have a clear mark that corresponds to the packing list. Installation crews work faster when the erection drawing, member label, and container list use the same language. Ask the supplier to identify any symmetrical members that are easy to reverse by mistake. If the project is remote, a few extra photographs of trial assembly points can be valuable.

Cladding details need the same discipline. Roof panels, wall panels, gutters, ridge caps, corner trims, flashings, sealants, and fasteners should be shown on layout drawings. Hangars often have wide doors, high walls, and exposed corners, so water tightness depends on correct flashing. If insulation is included, check how it terminates at doors, eaves, and penetrations. If skylights are used, confirm their location does not create glare in a maintenance area.

The drawing review should also cover corrosion protection and touch-up procedures. A coastal hangar needs a coating system that matches its environment, but the site team also needs instructions for damaged areas after unloading or bolt tightening. Specify primer, topcoat, galvanized secondary members if used, and compatible repair paint. The purchase order may name a prefab steel warehouse manufacturer, but the field result depends on how the package is handled after delivery.

Finally, document open issues. Create a simple list: drawing number, question, responsible party, answer date, and approval status. Do not release fabrication or shipment while door loads, anchor bolts, or cladding penetrations remain unclear. If technical support from a prefab steel building factory is needed during erection, agree on response channels before the crew is on site. A careful pre-shipment review is a small cost compared with a hangar frame waiting beside a runway for one missing clarification.

The review meeting should include the installer, even if the installer is appointed locally. Installers often notice practical issues that are invisible in an office review: crane standing distance, access for roof panel bundles, safe sequencing for long rafters, and the need for temporary guys before permanent bracing is fixed. Their comments can be captured as drawing notes or method statements before the package is loaded.

Check the spare parts policy before shipment. Hangar projects often suffer from misplaced fasteners, damaged trims, or a few panels scratched during unloading. A small allowance of extra bolts, self-drilling screws, sealant, and touch-up paint is inexpensive compared with stopping a crew. The spare list should be labeled separately so it is not consumed accidentally during the first day of erection.

After approval, freeze the drawing register. The final set should show revision numbers, approval dates, and superseded sheets. The packing list, member marks, and installation drawings must refer to the same revision. This discipline prevents a common remote-project problem: the site team builds from one PDF while the factory fabricated from another.
